This program provides immigration attorneys with an in-depth understanding of competency issues in removal proceedings under Matter of M-A-M. Participants will examine both the legal standards governing competency and the clinical considerations involved in evaluating mental health. 

The course addresses practical challenges, including identifying relevant psychiatric conditions, managing clients in detention settings, and responding to government claims of malingering. It also explores how attorneys can work effectively with forensic evaluators to ensure that clients receive appropriate procedural protections.
